March 8 Shop Update

Today’s shop update is LIVE, and it also happens to be my 35th birthday today, so I have a coupon available for a very limited time!

Top to bottom: Day/Night, Overachiever, Social Climber, Echinacea, Source Code

Swatches of each of the new colorways… Clockwise from top: Source Code, Social Climber, Overachiever, Day/Night, Echinacea (center)

Use coupon code HAPPYBDAY for 15% off your $30 or more purchase from now through Sunday 3/11 at midnight ET (only good on ready-to-ship items, no custom orders).

This week’s update is extra special anyway, as I’m debuting 5 brand new colorways, all inspired by fabric designed by renowned fabric designer Anna Maria Horner. 3 of these were previously available at Anna Maria’s flagship store CraftSouth, but are now available directly from Unwind and on different bases! Each of these 5 colorways are available on 2 bases each, but will be available for custom order immediately as well.

Thanks for helping me celebrate, and for treating yourself a bit in the process! You can find the shop here!

January 11 Update

Hi folks!

I am excited to be back with the first update of 2018! I’ve been a busy little bee lately, creating a new colorway series (more on that in a minute) as well as a few new standalone colorways that are just GORGEOUS.

Going up today at 1pmET in the shop…

Top Row L-R: Baby There’s A Shark In The Water, Auld Lang Syne, Lonely Hearts Club         Middle Row: Auld Lang Syne, Bird On A Wire, Lonely Hearts Club                                              Bottom Row: Queen Of Everything, Stained Glass Sock Blank, Auld Lang Syne

Auld Lang Syne and Baby There’s A Shark In The Water are brand new, and Lonely Hearts Club and Queen Of Everything were new in 2017. The sock blank is actually the 2017 Into The Wool colorway rendered on a blank, but as with all of my blanks it is a one of a kind.

Something new this week is a brand new colorway series. As I’m now a quilter AND a knitter, I’ve been thinking a lot about ways that both crafts intersect. In quilting, a “blender” is a fabric that reads as a single color and can be used to tie together more vibrant, variegated fabrics into a harmonious single project. I think it’s high time that we have that option in yarns too! So I have created my Perfect Blender Series to help out with that! 2 color shawls, “fade-style” projects, and speckled/variegated yarns often call out for a more semisolid option to go with them, so hopefully these new colorways will fill that need. I am starting out with 6 colorways, and will add onto these over the next few months. It is taking me a while to get the listings/blog page compiled as I am going through all of my dye formulas and populating a list of the colorways that they will easily go with, in case you don’t want to do the sleuthing yourself. 😉 There will be 2 colorways listed right at the update time today, and the rest will be added on as I have time over the next few days. These are going to be custom order listings and will take 3-4 weeks to ship after the order is placed (maximum), and will not be eligible for coupon codes (as none of my custom order listings are). To see the Perfect Blenders, visit the page linked under the blog header.

Thanks so much for stopping by today and I hope you’ll swing by the shop as well! 🙂 Until next time…

August 3 Shop Update

Hello everyone!

It’s been quite a week here in southeastern Tennessee. We have been struggling with over 100 degree heat index temperatures with 80% humidity, and now the weather has finally broken and is only in the low 90s with 50% humidity. It’s been a real treat- and I know how ridiculous that sounds.

Regardless, time marches on, and it’s time for the start of this year’s Halloween updates! I decided against doing brand new colorways this year, and instead dyed a lot of my most popular colorways from prior years.

Left side from top: Amuck Amuck Amuck on Luxe Sock, Death Watch Beetle on Luxe Sock, and Halloweenie on Luxe Sock.  Right side from top: Ghoulish on Luxe Sock, Midnight Margaritas on Rendezvous Sport Sock, Transylvania Tramp on Twinkle Sock, and I Put A Spell On You on Journey Sock.

There are limited quantities available in this update, as I always find it difficult to predict what people will want to purchase when it comes to Halloween yarns. If there is a large demand for a single color or another I would be happy to dye more of it- and the same goes for any of my other Halloween colorways that I didn’t dye in this round (they are listed in the Special Editions tab linked under the blog header). Feel free to place a custom order if you want something different, or if the yarn you want sells out! I’m running at a 2-3 week turnaround right now so you’ll definitely get your yarn in plenty of time to make that Halloween-themed project of your dreams!

Limited Edition Miniskein Set, featuring (left to right): Amuck Amuck Amuck, I Put A Spell On You, Midnight Margaritas, Death Watch Beetle, Halloweenie, Transylvania Tramp, & Ghoulish.

There are only 3 of the miniskein sets available this time, and once they sell out I do not have plans to dye them again. So if you love this set, be sure to get to the update on time at 2pmET!

Thanks again for all of your continued support of my business. By shopping with me, an independent dyer and small business owner, you’re allowing me to be able to stay home with my daughter and still earn an income, which is so amazing and wonderful. I can’t thank you guys enough.

Happy Spooky Shopping! 🙂

July 27 Update

Hi folks!

After a very long hiatus, I’ve decided to attempt to start blogging again. I can’t guarantee any sort of regular schedule, but I’d like to try to give my customers more insight into the workings of Unwind, my creative process, and give proper accolades for projects made out of my yarns. 🙂

Today I am doing a shop update at 2pmET, and these beauties are available to buy:

Top: A Good Place on Twinkle Sock; Middle: Shampoo Accident on Twinkle Sock; Bottom: Birth Of Venus on Luxe Sock

I’m sure longtime customers will remember Birth of Venus, as it’s been one of my most popular colorways since I dyed it for the 2 Crafty Girls club back in 2013. Indeed, it is one of the most beautiful, in my opinion, and knits up into fascinatingly complex projects.

The other two colorways are new today though, and one in particular bears a fun name I’d like to explain.

Top: Shampoo Accident, Bottom: A Good Place

As my friends could tell you if you asked them, I’m only borderline adventurous. I love my tattoos, and I’ve been known to dress crazy just to irritate my very taupe-loving husband. He is very simple and “Steady Eddie” in his appearance choices, and would rather I be the same. I, however, disagree and took his absence during his last work trip to South Korea to get my hair dyed in an ombre of pink, purple, and peach. I nervously waited for him to arrive home, thinking there would be some sort of blowup, but he said nothing until we went to bed that night. While lying there in bed, he said “um… did you know your hair is a weird color?” to which I put on a huge act of saying “WHAAAAAT? What do you MEAN?!” (like I had no clue) and he said “Well I thought maybe you’d had a shampoo accident and didn’t notice.” (I truly had no idea I was such a good actress. Apparently I missed an awesome career opportunity.) So there you have it! The story of the colorway name, and something I will tease him about until death do us part.

I hope you love these new colorways as much as I do, and take a look around the shop to see what else is new! 🙂 As always you can find the shop at

10.21.14 Shop Update

These will now be added into the repeatable colorways catalog, and can be reproduced on most bases (“Winter Night” will have a few small limitations in that regard since it’s space dyed). Also be sure to check out the shop swatch page to see what “Bounty” looks like knit up!

Thanks so much for your continued support of my shop! I hope you see something you love today!

A Little Help For A Friend

I write this post with both a heavy heart, and a heart full of hope… not sure how it’s possible to have both things at once, but there you go!

As some of you may know, I’ve become very good friends with SillyFru (aka Wendy) of the Sassy Pants Knitter podcast. Fru and I hung out a lot at the retreat I coordinated this year, Into The Wool, and she has graciously offered to help coordinate the retreat in 2015 along with CaffeinatedGert (aka Daniela) of the Caffeinated Knitting podcast. We have all become very close via Google Chat, where we literally chat with each other all day long around our other tasks. These ladies have become some of my closest friends and I’m so grateful to have them in my life.

A few weeks ago, Fru had an injury to her leg that just kept getting worse, and has gone down a long and frustrating medical path to finally getting a really scary diagnosis: she has hairy cell leukemia. The prognosis is good, and her spirits are a lot higher than mine would be in her situation, but there is still a scary path ahead of her and she’s only 37 years old. Not to mention the fact that her insurance is set to run out at the end of the month. (for more information on her story, please check out this episode of her podcast)

Not being close to her geographically, I have been trying to figure out what I can do to help this wonderful woman with her fight, and I think I’ve come up with the perfect way. My next huge update is set for October 7, and 10% of all sales from that update will go to Fru’s medical fund.

Now you may ask, why is this update any different from any other update I’ve had? Well, I will tell you… Caffeinated Gert and I have been collaborating on a special project for several months, and she has designed a pattern collection using my yarns that will knock your socks off. We had always planned for that update to be the big reveal of the pattern collection, and the timing just works out great for me to be able to give a good amount of money to Fru (hopefully!).

This update features a lot of Outlander colorways, for one… AND I’m debuting a brand new yarn base called JetSetter Super Bulky. It is identical to Malabrigo Rasta, but with exceptionally better yardage and skein size (250g/140yds of superbulky 100% merino wool). I’m also debuting a brand new Outlander colorway called Highlands, which is one of the colors Caffeinated Gert designed with.

I won’t show you the finished pattern yet because I feel like that Daniela needs to show that first, but let’s just say that it’s an accessory pattern collection that utilizes every weight of yarn I dye, has a lovely texture, and would make perfect gifts for your loved ones for Christmas! You can check out her post about her own fundraiser for Fru, as well as a sneak peek and some info about the collection on her Ravelry group here.

This colorway will be available on several bases, and all of my other Outlander colorways will make appearances on several bases as well. I will also have the Super Bulky yarn in lots of colorways that aren’t Outlander-themed too, in case those don’t strike your fancy.

Mainly, I want to be sure that I can make a sizable donation to Fru’s medical fund. You can help by buying things on October 7, and like I said before, 10% of all sales that day will go to Fru’s medical fund. How much money gets donated depends totally on sales that day, but I’m hoping that the enormous size of the update and the desirability of the items goes a long way toward helping the day be huge! I hope you’ll consider making a purchase that day, and I will be sure to post after the day’s sales are tallied with the amount that I am donating to her fund!

Thank you all so much for your support of my shop, and for your support of Fru! And don’t forget… any purchases made now through 9/26 will not ship until 9/27 or 9/29 (depending on when I can get out of bed after a full day of travel) due to my vacation.

9.16.14 Shop Update: TEALtember, Merry Fallmas, and a NEW colorway!

Hi all! If I had to pick a theme for today’s update, it would definitely be “bigger on the inside.” There are only 12 listings in the update, but those 12 listings are comprised of 43 skeins of yarn! If you visit the shop at update time today, here is a sampling of what you’ll find…

Today is the last chance you’ll have to get TEALtember this year, so if you want some… well, you know the rest. 😉 I’m also re-releasing Merry Fallmas today for the first time this year, and there are a lot of skeins of it available for you! (and if you miss it, there will be more in upcoming updates.)

I am also releasing a brand new colorway called Truly Madly Deeply. It is mostly purple, but has a lot of other colors in it as well if you look closely. I think it’s just gorgeous, and am so excited to have it available on Journey Sock and Touring DK today.

The update goes live at 4pmET today. I also wanted to let everyone know that I will be on vacation next week (my first trip to Vegas!!), so any purchase made after midnight on Friday night of this week (9/19) will not ship until 9/29. Thanks so much for your understanding! 🙂 Happy shopping!!
