NEW 2014 Halloween Colorways Preview!!

Hey all! As promised, I want to give you a preview of this year’s Halloween colorways… imagine a drumroll here…

2014 Halloween Colorways

2014 Halloween Colorways

Top: Burning Rain of Death, I Put A Spell On You

Bottom: Amuck Amuck Amuck, Come Little Children

These colorways are inspired by one of my favorite Halloween movies, Hocus Pocus. I watched this movie a LOT before I started dyeing these lovelies up, and I wanted to show you a couple of the inspiration pictures.

Burning Rain of Death was more from my imagination than from an inspiration picture… but I think the colors suit the name, don’t you?

As I’ve mentioned, next week’s 8/5/14 shop update will be all-Halloween. I will have each of these colorways on a variety of yarn bases (and fiber too, but just a few on fiber), as well as re-issues of all of my previous Halloween colorways that you know and love. You’ll be seeing more of Teen Wolf, Goth Girl, Transylvania Tramp, O Negative, Halloweenie, and Ghoulish, on both yarn and fiber. Also new in the shop in the update: mini skein sets of ALL of my Halloween colorways! Each kit will have 10 mini skeins of 30 yards apiece, for a total of 300 yards! There will be a limited number of these kits available, and when they’re gone they’re gone, so be sure to get to the update on time if you want one!

I’ve been busy knitting swatches of these colorways so you can see how they knit up, and will be posting them later in the weekend. Stop back by to see! πŸ™‚

7.8.14 Shop Update and a NEW base is available for preorder!

Hi all! I am working on getting today’s update up in preview mode, but I wanted to go ahead and share the mosaics now so you can plan your shopping. πŸ˜‰

Going up today you will find:

7.8.14 Yarns

7.8.14 Yarns

Top row: Fidelity Touring DK (1), Laura Loves Unwind Luxe Sock (1)
Middle row: Magnolia Blossom Journey Sock (1), OH DEER Twinkle Sock (1)
Bottom row: Abalone Twinkle Sock (1), Wedding Orchids Journey Sock (1)

7.8.14 Fibers

7.8.14 Fibers

Top row: Bougainvillea Polwarth, Amazon Polwarth
Middle row: Evergreen Gray Merino, Aurora Borealis Corriedale
Bottom row: Amazon Polwarth, Bougainvillea Polwarth

Sometimes I see a base that’s available from my mill and I think “WOW” but I’m not sure if it’s right for my line. This base has intrigued me for a long time, but because of the price point I didn’t want to commit to adding it permanently until I saw what my customers thought about it.

"Gracie Pearl" on Glisten DK

“Gracie Pearl” on Glisten DK

Here are the details about it:
Name: Glisten DK (tentatively named… it might get renamed if I add it to my line on a permanent basis)
Weight/Yardage: DK weight 4ply, 231yds/100g
Composed of: 75% superwash merino/20% silk/5% nylon
Gauge: 5.25-6sts = 1″ on US 5-7 needles
Care instructions: machine or hand wash gentle, dry flat away from sun (I REALLY recommend hand washing all handdyed yarns though!!)
Price: $30 per skein

I only ordered a few skeins of it, and have 18 of them going up today as dye-to-order. I haven’t done this method of ordering a whole lot, so here’s what it means for you:
1. You put the number of skeins in your cart that you’d like to order.
2. Put in the “notes to seller” area what colorway(s) you’d like to order, and the quantity of each so I know exactly what to dye for you (ie. if you order 4 skeins, be sure to put “colorway A” (2) and “colorway B” (2) so I know how many to dye of each).
3. This is a custom order, so it’s subject to my regular custom order policies: nonrefundable once dyed, subject to my dye schedule which is about a 2 week wait right now, etc.- see my Custom Orders page on my shop for more info).
4. Once these skeins are gone, whether or not I reorder them depends on demand, so if you want some and they are sold out OR if there aren’t enough for your project, please send me an email at unwindyarncompany (at) gmail (dot) com and let me know.

I hope you’ll give this base a try! It’s such a lovely yarn, and has an even softer hand than my Touring DK (and I didn’t think that was possible!). If you’ve knit with the Touring DK base, this one will knit up exactly the same, but has the added luster of silk plus the stellina sparkle. It’s definitely special!

Thanks so much for looking, and I hope you’ll give Glisten DK a try! πŸ™‚ See you next week!

1.14.14 Shop Update and a NEW Product Line!!

Hi everyone! Today is a very exciting day for me… I have not only an AWESOME shop update to tell you about, but I am also debuting a brand new product line!

First, here are the yarns and fibers that are going up in today’s 4pmET shop update…

And now, the big news! I am proud to announce that I am now a vendor for Kookaburra cleaners!

imagesIf you have not heard of these amazing products, I will tell you a bit about them. Kookaburra is a family-owned, US-run business that specializes in pure, plant-based cleaners that are environmentally safe and septic-system friendly. There are several varieties, including…

Top: Kookaburra Delicate, Kookaburra Power; Bottom: Kookaburra Scour, Kookaburra Wash (available both scented and unscented)

Top: Kookaburra Delicate, Kookaburra Power; Bottom: Kookaburra Scour, Kookaburra Wash (available both scented and unscented)

I have been using Kookaburra Delicate for several months for all of my handknits, delicates, and some of my husband’s clothes, and it has been absolutely amazing. My clothes are showing less wear, have a pleasant scent, and the gentle formula does not irritate my husband’s sensitive skin. Kookaburra Power is a household cleaner that is simply AMAZING at cleaning up greasy spots and stains (and can get pretty much any pet stain up, no matter what it is or how long it’s been there!). Kookaburra Scour is a wool-scouring formula for you spinners out there; it gently gets dirt out of fleece without stripping it of its lovely natural luster and lanolin. Kookaburra Wash is available in both scented and unscented varieties, is perfect for washing handknits, and has a gentle lanolin-enriched formula that is perfect for cloth diapers and other sensitive-skin items.

I will be carrying the 2oz “try me” size for $2.49 as well as the 16oz size for $10.95, and all of all of these varieties are currently up in the shop. There is also a one-gallon jug as well as a 5 gallon bucket available for purchase; just contact me, as I will not have these in stock but they can be drop-shipped from Kookaburra directly to you.

I hope you’ll consider giving Kookaburra a try, because it is by far my favorite wool wash product now and I cannot recommend it enough!

Thanks so much for your support, everyone! Happy shopping!

9.10.13 Shop Update and a NEW FIBER!!

Hey friends!

I am really excited about today’s update… not only is it HUGE, but I have a new product that’s making its debut!

First of all, here are the yarns that are going up today:

9.10.13 Yarns

9.10.13 Yarns

For the first time, my February 2013 2 Crafty Girls Club colorway, Birth of Venus, is available to the public! There are two skeins available on Journey Sock (bottom right in the above mosaic) and it will be available on preorder. Please be aware that this colorway does not lend itself to fiber, so it will be a yarn-only colorway. Sorry!

And now for the fibers…

9.10.13 Fibers (part 1)

9.10.13 Fibers (part 1)

In this mosaic you’ll see three colorways that are making their debut in this update: second from the left is Wheaten, one in from the right is Dreamlike, and the far right is Amazon. These have all been done before, but these are their new “reimagined” incarnations. I like these so much, and hope you do too!

And here is the second part of the fibers:

9.10.13 Fibers, Part 2

9.10.13 Fibers, Part 2

As you can see, rolags are back! πŸ™‚ I had fun making these three sets, and plan to have more in next week’s update in case you miss the opportunity to get these today.

I’m sure you’re wondering about the new product. I am proud to announce that I have added superwash bfl/nylon sock spinning fiber to the shop lineup! It is a wonderful 80% superwash bfl/20% nylon blend, with a really soft hand and a bit of a sheen. It takes dye beautifully, and will spin up into a very durable yet soft yarn. It is not just great for socks, though: you could use it for any item that is going to get a lot of wear, such as mittens or fingerless gloves, anything for kids, legwarmers, etc! I hope you’ll give it a try, because I think you’ll love it! Today it is available in Wheaten, Amazon, Dreamlike, and Goldenrod, and will be available for custom order in any of my repeatable colorways.

I hope you guys see something you can’t live without! And please don’t forget the coupon code: NEWSHOPYEA will save you 15% off you entire order through the end of the month!

8.6.13 Shop Update

Hi everyone! I hope this post finds you all doing very well and having a great week!

Here is today’s shop update, going live at 4pmET:

8.6.13 Yarns

8.6.13 Yarns

8.6.13 Fibers

8.6.13 Fibers

You might have noticed that there is something new in the “Fibers” picture: Spin Your Own Socks Kits!

Spin Your Own Socks Kits!

Spin Your Own Socks Kits!

These kits feature my Panda Sock Roving (60% superwash merino/30% bamboo rayon/10% nylon), 4oz of a main color and 2oz of a coordinating color. You can spin these in many different ways, including spinning two plies of the main braid and one of the coordinating braid and doing a three ply, spin the main braid for the main portions of the sock and then using the coordinating braid for heels and toes… the options are endless! These kits would also be great for two-color shawls, because you could use the coordinating braid to spin for the border. These two kits (Dog Days Are Gone with Silver Coordinate and Stop & Smell The Poppies with Cinnamon Coordinate) are the only two kits going up today, but there will be more in future updates. Please feel free to request a custom kit on Etsy if you have a different color combination in mind!

Thank you all so much for you support of the first week of TEALtember orders, too. I am working as fast as I can to get these dyed up so that you can get your yarn and/or fiber in plenty of time to participate in KALs/SALs for TEALtember. Remember: preorders are only available until August 21, so be sure to order yours ASAP!

Another bit of news: I’ll be on vacation next week (August 11-17) so please know that any orders placed after Friday August 9 will not ship until Monday August 19. I will still have a small update next week (although it might not be right at 4pmET, depending on the day’s activities), and will have limited internet access so it might take me a day or two to get back to you if you email me.

As always, thanks for your support, and I hope you see something you adore in the update!

PREORDERS for TEALtember- Ovarian Cancer Awareness

Hi friends!

I am excited to share some news with you. I very happily agreed to design a new colorway in honor of TEALtember- the celebration of Ovarian Cancer Awareness hosted by The High Fiber Diet Podcast (hosted by the wonderful CoggieTM!).

Some facts about ovarian cancer (taken from http://www.cdc.gov):
* causes more deaths than any other female reproductive cancer, but it accounts for only about 3% of all cancers in women
* each year, about 20,000 women in the United States get ovarian cancer
* among women, ovarian cancer is the eighth most common cancer and the fifth leading cause of cancer death, after lung and bronchus, breast, colorectal, and pancreatic cancers

This is a cause that I feel very strongly about, and wanted to do a special colorway to recognize. In lieu of me donating money on behalf of my customers, I have discounted the Journey Sock yarn by $2 per skein and the Panda Sock Roving/Superwash BFL Roving by $1 per braid, and hope that you will donate that amount (plus whatever else you can afford) to one of the following ovarian cancer foundations:
http://www.ovariancancer.org/
http://www.tealtoes.org/

The preorders are for Journey Sock, Panda Sock Roving, and Superwash BFL Roving. They will be available until 8/21.Β Β I will dye these as quickly as I can and get them shipped out on a first come, first served basis. All orders will definitely be shipped by 8/30 so that you can use the yarn to celebrate TEALtember and participate in knitalongs and spinalongs to raise awareness of ovarian cancer. I do not have a preset limit on the number of preorders, but if the number of orders begins to exceed what I can conceivably get dyed within the time frame, I reserve the right to end preorders early.

And now I’m sure you want to see the colorway, right??

7.30.13 Shop Update

Hi everyone! I hope this post finds you all doing well. I had a nice relaxing week last week, but am back to the dyepots this week, creating some lovely new colorways for you! More on that later though… πŸ˜‰

Here is today’s shop update preview.

7.30.13 Yarn Update

7.30.13 Fiber Update

7.30.13 Fiber Update

I am debuting a new-to-the-shop product this week: Kaleidoscope Microbatts!

Kaleidoscope Microbatts

Kaleidoscope Microbatts

These are a smaller and more random version of my regular Kaleidoscope batts. They don’t have a set list of ingredients, but will never contain alpaca, mohair, or angora (because I have allergies, and I know a lot of you do too!), and may or may not contain sparkle. The color blending is also much more random and will produce a very tweedy yarn in most instances. They’re nonrepeatable, so if you see a set you like, snap it up! πŸ™‚

All of these goodies will be available in the shop update at 4pmET. Thank you all so much for looking, and I will see you next week!

5.28.13 Shop Update Preview, New Colorways, and a New Fiber Base!!

Hi friends! I hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend! I certainly did… fun with family and friends and a lot of relaxing. πŸ™‚

Here is today’s shop update preview…

You might have noticed some new colorways this time. I am excited to be introducing three new colorways today (well, one was up last week but I didn’t mention it, oops!):

"Ethereal" on Expedition Sport

“Ethereal” on Expedition Sport

"Ladies Who Lunch" on Journey Sock

“Ladies Who Lunch” on Journey Sock

"Whisper" on Journey Sock

“Whisper” on Journey Sock

These three lovelies are all new for summer, and I’m so excited to share them with you! “Ethereal” is a lovely natural white with splashes of different blues and aquas in random patterns. “Whisper” is a base of natural white with splashes of the palest lavender purple. Both of these colorways are kettle dyed, so they should not pool when knit. The last new colorway is “Ladies Who Lunch”, which I think is SO much fun! It’s a space-dyed colorway featuring kelly green, pink, bright yellow, and navy. It will create random patterning when knit, so be sure to swatch to see if you like the effect with your pattern!

I am also releasing a new fiber base today for the first time: Panda sock top! This wonderfully soft fiber is 60% superwash merino/30% bamboo rayon/10% nylon, so it is absolutely perfect for spinning for socks. It is going up today in 3 colorways (“Plum”, “Abalone”, & “The Great Berry Caper”). For those of you going to SSK, I will have this fiber at SSK as well.

This is the last update of this month, but the coupon code I mentioned a couple of weeks ago is good through midnight ET on May 31, so you still have a few days to use it! For those that need a reminder, the coupon is BADTIMING and is good for 15% off your entire purchase, even custom orders of sweater quantities! I hope you’ll take advantage of this great deal while it’s available! πŸ™‚

Have a great week, and I’ll talk to you guys soon!
