June 28 Shop Update

Hello everyone! As I’ve been listing quite a bit of yarn lately, I decided to do something fun and different today… I’ve listed more fun yarn bowls, and a brand new product for me: spinning project bags!

Brand New Today: Spinning Project Bags!

The project bags are really unique and fun. Whenever I take my spinning wheel or spindle out of the house, I’m always torn on what to do with my fiber. I don’t want to keep crushing it into a plastic bag, and I think my fiber gets a little jealous of all of my pretty knitting project bags! This style of bag was born from the need to have a stylish and practical way to carry spinning fiber. It is lined with satin so your fiber doesn’t get felted or stuck all over the inside of the bag, and has 3 kam snaps as closures across the top so you don’t have to deal with fiber getting stuck in a zipper or fiddle with a drawstring. It even has a handy wrist strap if you want to walk and spin on your spindle simultaneously!

For more information on these beauties, check out the shop! All items are now available for purchase!

March 1 Update

Hi folks!

Sorry for the radio silence last week. I have been really ill with a respiratory virus, and needed some time to recover. I’m now fairly well (still a little sick but not contagious) so I’m back to work! 🙂

This week I have 3 regular listings going up:

1AFF0DB6-CAED-458B-9974-6CEA70B65232

Top: “I Want It NOW” on Journey Sock, Middle: “Ladybug” on Journey Sock, Bottom: “Bali Mynah” on Journey Sock

I also listed the next two colorways in my Perfect Blenders series today:

1877B95E-4AEA-48F9-BAE8-7179116BF75A

Top: Perfect Dove, Bottom: Perfect Dusk

These are very basic shades of gray that go with SO many of my colorways:

Screen Shot 2018-03-01 at 9.26.24 AM

Isn’t that awesome? So many options!! These Blenders are available on basically every base I dye, so no matter your project you’ll have lots of options! 🙂

The update goes live at 1pmET for the regular skeins, and the Blenders are already available for purchase.

One last notice… this past week, KinoKnits released the new Anna Karenina Shawl pattern, which calls for one skein of my Journey Sock in Mariposa.

IMG_2083

Because this colorway is just SO perfect for this shawl, I opened a preorder for that exact yarn so folks could have an opportunity to get a discount on it. Enter code LEV15 at checkout and save 15% on the preorder for this yarn through midnight tonight (3/1)- there is no limit to the number of skeins you can purchase, if you’d like to order it for a sweater or some other larger project instead. The yarn is scheduled to ship out within 2 weeks.

Thanks so much for stopping by, and I hope you see something you need to add to your stash!

January 11 Update

Hi folks!

I am excited to be back with the first update of 2018! I’ve been a busy little bee lately, creating a new colorway series (more on that in a minute) as well as a few new standalone colorways that are just GORGEOUS.

Going up today at 1pmET in the shop…

Jan11Update

Top Row L-R: Baby There’s A Shark In The Water, Auld Lang Syne, Lonely Hearts Club         Middle Row: Auld Lang Syne, Bird On A Wire, Lonely Hearts Club                                              Bottom Row: Queen Of Everything, Stained Glass Sock Blank, Auld Lang Syne

Auld Lang Syne and Baby There’s A Shark In The Water are brand new, and Lonely Hearts Club and Queen Of Everything were new in 2017. The sock blank is actually the 2017 Into The Wool colorway rendered on a blank, but as with all of my blanks it is a one of a kind.

Something new this week is a brand new colorway series. As I’m now a quilter AND a knitter, I’ve been thinking a lot about ways that both crafts intersect. In quilting, a “blender” is a fabric that reads as a single color and can be used to tie together more vibrant, variegated fabrics into a harmonious single project. I think it’s high time that we have that option in yarns too! So I have created my Perfect Blender Series to help out with that! 2 color shawls, “fade-style” projects, and speckled/variegated yarns often call out for a more semisolid option to go with them, so hopefully these new colorways will fill that need. I am starting out with 6 colorways, and will add onto these over the next few months. It is taking me a while to get the listings/blog page compiled as I am going through all of my dye formulas and populating a list of the colorways that they will easily go with, in case you don’t want to do the sleuthing yourself. 😉 There will be 2 colorways listed right at the update time today, and the rest will be added on as I have time over the next few days. These are going to be custom order listings and will take 3-4 weeks to ship after the order is placed (maximum), and will not be eligible for coupon codes (as none of my custom order listings are). To see the Perfect Blenders, visit the page linked under the blog header.

Thanks so much for stopping by today and I hope you’ll swing by the shop as well! 🙂 Until next time…

3.17.15 Shop Update and NEW Pattern Release!!

Hi everyone!

I’ve had an extremely busy beginning to this month, so this is the first shop update in a while. I’ve tried to make it really big and awesome for you though, so here is your preview…

Sock and Sportweight Yarns

There are two skeins each of the sock yarns, plus four skeins of the brand new colorway Gulf in sport, which is pictured in the upper right corner.

Fibers

Fibers

Today I have listed a pair each of every colorway, plus several braids of undyed gray merino and undyed swirl bfl, and a couple of panda spin your own socks kits. My fiber supply is dwindling (as is my ability to prepare fiber for dyeing) so I anticipate only 2-3 more updates will have fiber in them before I’m unable to dye any more to list.

Worsted Weight Sweater Quantities

Worsted Weight Sweater Quantities

I am really excited today, as the incomparable Amy Christoffers has just released her brand new sweater pattern Arborvitae, which is designed especially for my Wanderlust Worsted base.

This gorgeous sweater is an excellent shape to fit a variety of body types, and depending on the amount of ease desired, uses 2-3 skeins of this base. I am listing 9 sweater quantities today (8 colors total) with plans to restock in my 3/31 update. I am still not taking custom orders per se, but if there’s a colorway you absolutely can’t live without, please feel free to email me via the shop and I’ll see if I can get it dyed up for that update. (no reserve listings though, sorry!)

Also, I am the podcast sponsor for my podcast Just One More Row this month, so if you listen to episodes 103 and 104, there is a coupon code available for listeners that can be used on any coupon-eligible item in my shop through midnight ET on 3/31.

As always, thanks so much for your continued support of my shop, and I hope you see something you love in the update today!

11.11.14 Shop Update- And It’s A Doozy!

Hey all! Glad to be speaking with you again… it’s been a while since I did an update, so I made sure that today’s will absolutely blow your mind!

First of all, I am proud to be able to put some very special kits up in the shop today. These kits are collaborations with some very talented designers, and they all include a pattern download code for the individual pattern they were made for. They’re limited edition, so if you see one you like, don’t hesitate!

I also have a few sets of MiniSkeins (random assortments) as well as a few Fair Isle Kits.

And of course, there’s the regular yarn and fiber update as well.

11.11.14 Yarns

11.11.14 Fibers

11.11.14 Fibers

So as you can see, there is a LOT to choose from today! The kits with pattern download codes are not eligible for any sort of coupon code discount, but everything else is should you happen to have one… say… from following me on Instagram? If you don’t follow me, please go do so! I’m Dana_Of_Unwind there… and I only add people who have their profiles marked to public and are obviously knitters/spinners… if yours is private please email me to let me know who you are so I can allow you to follow me! I occasionally put up coupon codes just on Instagram for my followers… you’ve been warned. 😉

This is the last update until the big one at midnight on Thanksgiving night, which will kick off my Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale. Just keep in mind that the longer you wait, the smaller the chance that you’ll get what you want because things tend to sell quickly this time of year.

I also wanted to announce that I am closing custom orders for the rest of the year at the end of next week, on 11/22/14. I need to take some time off to enjoy the holidays and rest. Thank you for your understanding and support!

9.9.14 Shop Update, TEALtember returns!, and a NEW shop swatch!

Hello all! I’m really excited to share today’s shop update with you. I’m re-releasing TEALtember today, which was probably my most-ordered colorway last year… and based on the response on Instagram, it’s shaping up to be incredibly popular today as well!

TEALtember goodies!

TEALtember goodies!

Just in case you weren’t a customer last year, I want to share some information with you about TEALtember and what it stands for…

Some facts about ovarian cancer (taken from http://www.cdc.gov):
* causes more deaths than any other female reproductive cancer, but it accounts for only about 3% of all cancers in women
* each year, about 20,000 women in the United States get ovarian cancer
* among women, ovarian cancer is the eighth most common cancer and the fifth leading cause of cancer death, after lung and bronchus, breast, colorectal, and pancreatic cancers

TEALtember started to raise awareness about this very terrifying and life-threatening form of cancer. For the month of Spetember, women all over the world paint their nails and toenails teal, wear teal, and talk about ovarian cancer to anyone and everyone they come in contact with. We might not be able to totally prevent this cancer yet, but we can raise awareness and hopefully encourage one another to stay up-to-date with our medical exams and know our bodies well enough to recognize symptoms that something isn’t right. Early diagnosis is the key to beating this disease.

This is a cause that I feel very strongly about, and wanted to do a special colorway to recognize. In lieu of me donating money on behalf of my customers, I have discounted all TEALtember yarns and fibers by $2 per item and hope that you will donate that amount (plus whatever else you can afford) to one of the following ovarian cancer foundations:
http://www.ovariancancer.org/
http://www.tealtoes.org/

Because I am discounting this colorway already, PLEASE do not use any sort of coupon code or discount (this includes shop swatch discounts!!!) on this colorway. I want to support this cause, but I do have to make a living too… I’m sure all of you understand this.

TEALtember is up in the shop today on Journey Sock (8 skeins), Honeymoon Sock (4 skeins), Expedition Sport (4 skeins), and Touring DK (2 skeins), as well as on Polwarth/Silk (3 braids), Merino/Silk (2 braids), and Overdyed Gray Merino (3 braids). This colorway is NOT available for custom order at this time. I will have this colorway in the next update too, so if you miss it in this update, be sure to check back next week!

And now for the rest of the update:

9.6.14 Yarns

9.9.14 Yarns

Top: Evergreen Touring DK (5), Fidelity Expedition Sport (2), Waterlilies Touring DK (2)

Middle: Waterlilies Journey Sock (2), Teeny Bikini Voyage Aran (4), Love Note Journey Sock (1)

Bottom: Stop & Smell The Poppies Voyage Aran (4), Terra Nova Journey Sock (1), Come Little Children Journey Sock (1)

And a quick note about Waterlilies… this colorway was my January 2014 2 Crafty Girls Club installment, and this is the first time that I have made it available in the shop to the public. It was inspired by my favorite iteration of Monet’s Waterlilies, and I hope you love it as much as I do!

I also wanted to share the most recent shop swatch, this time of Love Note on Journey Sock:

"Love Note" on Journey Sock

“Love Note” on Journey Sock

This swatch was knit in the round on US2 double pointed needles, 60 stitches around, which is the same way I usually knit a pair of stockinette socks. I hope this picture helps you to see what this yarn looks like worked up, and that you love it like I do! 🙂 (and as with all of my shop swatches, they’re available for perusal at any time by clicking the “shop swatch examples” link above, under the blog header.)

And now for the fibers…

9.6.14 Fibers

9.9.14 Fibers

Top: Dandy Polwarth

Middle: Cerulean Swirl BFL, Peach Crumble Falkland, Aurora Borealis Corriedale

Bottom: Dandy Polwarth

Another announcement…. my husband and I have planned a surprise vacation the third week of this month, so the second update of the month has been moved to next Tuesday, 9/16 at 4pmET. I plan to have more TEALtember, as well as the return of Merry Fallmas (last year’s second-most-popular colorway!) on both yarn and fiber.

Last but not least, I hope you’ll follow me on Instagram (my username is dana_of_unwind) to see little sneak peeks of what will go up in updates, behind-the-scenes pics of what it’s like to be a full-time dyer, etc.! My Instagram profile is set to private, so you’ll have to request to follow me; a word of caution though: I only approve people who have their Ravelry name clearly marked in their profile, whose profile contains the words “knitting” or “spinning”, or who have pictures of knitting or spinning easily viewable from their profile (aka not marked private). I’ve had a rash of underage people who appear to be non-knitters trying to follow me (why on earth they’d want to, I have no idea… I would seem very boring to someone like that I think!) so I’m having to be careful about approving people unless I know for sure they are knitters or spinners, or know me in real life. So if I don’t approve you because your profile doesn’t meet the criteria I outlined above, shoot me an email at unwindyarncompany (at) gmail (dot) com and tell me your username so I can add you. 🙂

I hope you guys have a great week!

NEW 2014 Halloween Colorways Preview!!

Hey all! As promised, I want to give you a preview of this year’s Halloween colorways… imagine a drumroll here…

2014 Halloween Colorways

2014 Halloween Colorways

Top: Burning Rain of Death, I Put A Spell On You

Bottom: Amuck Amuck Amuck, Come Little Children

These colorways are inspired by one of my favorite Halloween movies, Hocus Pocus. I watched this movie a LOT before I started dyeing these lovelies up, and I wanted to show you a couple of the inspiration pictures.

Burning Rain of Death was more from my imagination than from an inspiration picture… but I think the colors suit the name, don’t you?

As I’ve mentioned, next week’s 8/5/14 shop update will be all-Halloween. I will have each of these colorways on a variety of yarn bases (and fiber too, but just a few on fiber), as well as re-issues of all of my previous Halloween colorways that you know and love. You’ll be seeing more of Teen Wolf, Goth Girl, Transylvania Tramp, O Negative, Halloweenie, and Ghoulish, on both yarn and fiber. Also new in the shop in the update: mini skein sets of ALL of my Halloween colorways! Each kit will have 10 mini skeins of 30 yards apiece, for a total of 300 yards! There will be a limited number of these kits available, and when they’re gone they’re gone, so be sure to get to the update on time if you want one!

I’ve been busy knitting swatches of these colorways so you can see how they knit up, and will be posting them later in the weekend. Stop back by to see! 🙂

7.1.14 Shop Update

Hi all! I hope this week finds you doing well. It is over 100 degrees F here with the heat index, so I’m staying indoors as much as possible. It’s making dyeing difficult, but I persevere. 😉

I also wanted to show you guys a knitted swatch of Your Face Is My Heart, which is one of my new Outlander colorways. I know that sometimes it’s hard to visualize what a yarn will look like knitted up when you’re just looking at a picture of a skein, so I am going to be making a real effort to knit up swatches of my new colors as I release them.

"Your Face Is My Heart" on Honeymoon Sock

“Your Face Is My Heart” on Honeymoon Sock

This swatch was knit on size US2 double pointed needles, and I cast on 60 stitches just like I would for a sock leg if I was going to knit a pair of socks for myself. I hope this gives you a good idea of what it will look like knit up!

Don’t forget about the coupon code for fiber for participants of the Tour de Fleece! You can enter coupon code TOURDEFLEECE14 to save 10% off your fiber purchase (this coupon will only work on fiber), through midnight ET on 7/27.

Thanks so much for your continued support of my shop. I really do have the best customers I could possibly hope for.

Very Exciting Announcement!!

Hey all!

Sorry for no shop update this week. I have been really under the weather, and haven’t had as much dye time as I usually do.

Today, though, I have some very exciting news to share with you! A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to talk with the very amazing and talented designer Susan Claudino, and we started a new collaboration. I dyed up a new colorway for her, and she designed the cutest pattern with it!

I’d like to introduce you to… Bonnie Wee Mouse!

BonnieWeeMouse 010

And some more glamour shots…

BonnieWeeMouse 011 BonnieWeeMouse 008 BonnieWeeMouse 002

He uses one skein of my Touring DK yarn in my brand-new colorway, Bonnie Wee Thing:

Bonnie Wee Thing TDK (10)

This yarn is actually my newest Outlander series colorway, and is based on the warm and gentle sentiment Jamie uses in several of the books. It is a taupe color base with speckles of hot pink and grayish-purple. I am so proud of this colorway, and SO very proud to have it used in a design by the fabulous Susan Claudino!

The pattern for Bonnie Wee Mouse will be released tomorrow, Thursday 2/13, so I am putting up 10 skeins of Bonnie Wee Thing on Touring DK in the shop at 4pmET tomorrow as well. I can easily dye more of this, so if you don’t see this post until after they have all sold, never fear! I can do it as a custom order lickety-split.

I hope you guys are as excited as I am! Thanks so much for all of your support!

Dana
